Walter (Greer, SC) has introduced the WB04/WB05/WB06/WB07 solid carbide mini boring bars and the W4280/W4282/W4291 adaptors for the production of small parts on Swiss Tooling style lathes. The tools are suitable for internal turning, copy turning, reverse turning, thread turning, grooving and axial grooving.

The precision-ground WB boring bars provide maximum repeatability and positioning accuracy and are appropriate for turning from a minimum bore diameter (Dmin) of 0.01 inch.( 0.3 mm) to 0.28 inch (7.2 mm).

The tools impart the finest surface quality and exert a low cutting force due to the sharp cutting edge. The boring bars enable full chip control even in demanding materials thanks to “X” and “F” chip breaker geometries. The WB-T..X geometry features a ground chip breaker to provide effective chip control at the maximum depth of cut. The WB-T..F geometry has a laser-generated chip breaker to offer full chip control for every machining operation. WB-T..FP geometry provides a ‘-P’ precision through-coolant for highest tool life and chip evacuation.

The boring bars are available in two grades: WSM23X and WSM13X. The primary applications for WSM23X are machining steels ISO P25, stainless steels ISO M25 and super alloys ISO S25. The secondary application is boring non-ferrous metals ISO N25. The universal PVD grade features a multi-layer titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coating and a TiN top layer and is for parting off/grooving and turning with a moderate to low cutting speed and depth of cut.
