S.D. Residents Worried About Proposed Hog Facility

Some residents of southwest Davison County are worried about a large hog production facility that has been proposed in the area.

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Some residents of southwest Davison County are worried about a large hog production facility that has been proposed in the area.

The Mitchell Daily Republic reports the Davison County Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday will consider an application from Jackrabbit Family Farms for a conditional use permit to operate a swine production unit.

Lyle Reimnitz says he is worried that he is losing the prospect for a quiet retirement on his property nearby. He says he and other landowners were invited by Jackrabbit Farms to a recent meeting to determine if they are interested in using the manure generated by the hog farm.

Another area resident, Dave Truesdell, says he's worried about dust and odor that might be produced by the hog facility.
