BATESVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Peco Foods says it will add 300 jobs in eastern Arkansas by expanding a feed mill in Newark and a processing plant in Batesville.

The company says the expansion will bring its total employment in Independence County to 866. The company says it plans to invest a total of $13.8 million in the two facilities.

Peco Foods announced the expansion Wednesday alongside local leaders and Gov. Mike Beebe.

Peco Foods is the eighth-largest poultry processor in the United States. The company, which is based in Tuscaloosa, Ala.; says it processes more than 4.2 million birds and 22 million pounds of ready-to-cook poultry each week.

Peco employs more than 4,900 people.
