ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A former Hostess bakery and outlet in Anchorage may soon reopen under new ownership.

Sunrise Bakery closed in November after Hostess was unable to reach an agreement with union workers outside Alaska.

Franz Bakery, based in Portland, Ore., announced last week that Sunrise was among properties of bankrupt Hostess Brands Inc. for which it submitted the winning bid at auction.

The Anchorage Daily News says Sunrise was the only large-scale wholesale bakery in Alaska when it closed. Operations included an outlet store and contracts with the Anchorage School District.

The bid on Hostess properties awaits bankruptcy court approval. The bid does not include Twinkies or Wonder Bread, which were acquired by other companies.

United States Bakery, Franz's corporate name, will request sale approval at U.S. Bankruptcy Court April 9.
