A panel discussion during this week's Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) meeting in Chicago tackled the topic of sustainability in food processing plants. The panel discussed the need for processors to develop sustainability strategies for their businesses. Cristian Barcan, regional head of applied sustainability for BASF Corporation said,

“We as producers have a responsibility to put food on the table that is safe, healthy and sufficient. It’s not a matter of whether consumers will pay for it.”
