BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Health Department says more than 10,000 gallons of saltwater leaked from an oil well site in the western part of the state.
Environmental geologist Kris Roberts says the spill about three miles west of Alexander has been contained. Roberts says Englewood, Colo.-based Rim Operating Inc. reported the spill Saturday night.
Roberts says inspectors were en route to the site on Monday afternoon.
Saltwater is a byproduct of oil production.
Roberts says some of the saltwater left the well site and migrated about 1,000 feet through an iced-over drainage. He says about 95 of the 250 barrels that spilled have been recovered.
Roberts says no public water supplies are threatened.
