The states of New Hampshire and Massachusetts will be taking part in a full-scale emergency planning exercise regarding the Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant this week.

The event allows federal teams to examine the ability of local, state and utility officials to protect the health and safety of the public living near the power plant in the event of a radiological release.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will observe and evaluate governmental responses. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will observe the performance of Seabrook plant staff.

FEMA says it will hold a public briefing following Friday's event at 11 a.m. at the Courtyard Marriott in Portsmouth.

Communities within a 10-mile emergency planning zone will be required to activate their emergency operations centers during the event.
