Pennsylvania Kraft Heinz Plant To Close For Good

Kraft Heinz will officially close its 44-year-old factory in eastern Pennsylvania in about two weeks.

Kraft Heinz will officially close its 44-year-old factory in eastern Pennsylvania in about two weeks.

Michael Mullen, a spokesman for the food giant, told The Morning Call that the facility in Upper Macungie Township will be shuttered by Nov. 18.

The company originally announced last year that it would close the Lehigh Valley factory, along with six others throughout North America, amid a restructuring effort following the merger of Heinz and Kraft.

The plant produced Grey Poupon mustard, A-1 steak sauce and Keurig coffee; those operations will be shifted to existing facilities in Illinois, Michigan and Canada.

The company's filing with Pennsylvania officials indicated that 341 jobs would be impacted by the closure. Layoffs began in July, but Mullen previously indicated that about one-third of the workforce would receive incentives to remain on the job through November.
