DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) -- A fabricated steel company is expanding its operation in Denham Springs with the purchase of buildings once used by an iron foundry.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/AbVSX7) Superior Steel Inc. will invest more than $1 million in new equipment for the plant, which will grow to about 90,000 square feet. The company currently employs 85 workers and says more could be hired.
Company president Joseph Easley, whose family owns Superior Steel, said the expansion should be operational by September. Superior purchased buildings once used by Vulcan Foundry, along with four cranes. The foundry has been vacant for about five years.
Superior fabricates steel for refineries, chemical plants, mills, warehouses, commercial buildings and sports facilities along the Gulf Coast.
