L'Oreal To Close Cleveland Plant

L'Oreal has announced it will close a hair care products plant in a Cleveland suburb by the end of next year, in a move that will affect 260 workers.

SOLON, Ohio (AP) -- L'Oreal (LOHR'-ee-ahl) has announced it will close a hair care products plant in a Cleveland suburb by the end of next year, in a move that will affect 260 workers.

The cosmetics company says it's shutting down the facility in Solon (SOH'-luhn) as it consolidates its North American shampoo and conditioner production. A statement says the work will shift to other L'Oreal plants in Florence, Ky., and Franklin, N.J.

L'Oreal says some of the Ohio employees may be offered jobs at other locations.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports the plant was opened in 1980 with the launch of the Matrix essentials shampoo and conditioner company. Matrix went through a couple of ownership changes and became part of L'Oreal in 2000.
