South Carolina Companies Win Manufacturing Awards

Three South Carolina manufacturers have been recognized at the 16th annual Salute to Manufacturing.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Three South Carolina manufacturers have been recognized at the 16th annual Salute to Manufacturing.

Organizers say the winners of the 2011 Silver Crescent Awards for Manufacturing Excellence are Cox Industries of Orangeburg, Domtar Paper Co.-Marlboro Mill of Bennettsville, and Robert Bosch LLC of Charleston.

More than 350 people attended Thursday's luncheon at Greenville's convention center. Twenty-two companies were finalists.

The small-size winner, Cox Industries, has 150 employees and makes treated outdoor products. In August, Gov. Nikki Haley announced she named Michael Johnson, CEO of the family-owned business, as chairman of the board that oversees federally funded job training programs offered at unemployment centers.

Mid-size winner Domtar Paper employs 325 people.

Large winner Robert Bosch has been making automotive parts in Charleston since 1974 and employs more than 1,700.
