U.S. Vice President Joe Biden recently released a new report, “100 Recovery Act Projects that are Changing America,” which highlights some of the most innovative and effective initiatives across the country that are transforming the economy.

No. 16 on the report’s innovative project list is DuPont’s $175 million expansion of the Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film plant underway in Circleville, Ohio.

Tedlar® films serve as the critical component of photovoltaic (PV) backsheets, providing long-term durability and performance for photovoltaic modules in all-weather conditions.

The film line expansion will use existing and retrofitted assets. The expansion provides Tedlar®-oriented film capacity to support global demand of more than 10 gigawatts (GW) of PV module production. The investment will deliver DuPont technology to help meet increasing needs for energy and environmental sustainability.

DuPont anticipates the PV market will grow rapidly over the next several years, and this growth will drive the demand for Tedlar® and other new materials that increase the lifetime and efficiency of solar cells and modules.

DuPont recently announced it expects to achieve $1 billion in revenue from sales into the PV market in 2010 — one year ahead of schedule.
