Praxair To Expand Capacity At Tennessee Factory

Maker of specialty gases and surface coatings will double the capacity of the air-separation complex at its Memphis plant to produce more oxygen and nitrogen.

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) -- Praxair Inc. said Monday it will double the capacity of the air-separation complex at its Memphis plant to produce more oxygen and nitrogen for steel maker Nucor Corp. and oil refiner Valero Energy Corp.

Praxair, which makes specialty gases and surface coatings, recently built a pipeline capable of serving multiple customers in the Riverport area. A new plant is expected to start up in the third quarter of this year.

As part of this planned expansion, Praxair will add 400 tons per day of new liquid production capacity to serve the growing requirements of customers in the region.

The company's shares rose 17 cents to close at $98.15.
