UK Factory Output Rises In October

Official data shows manufacturing output in Britain rose 0.6 percent in October from September, the strongest performance since March.

LONDON (AP) -- Official data show manufacturing output in Britain rose 0.6 percent in October from September, the strongest performance since March.

The Office for National Statistics reported that factory output was 5.8 percent higher than a year earlier.

However, the broader index of production, which includes mining and oil production, was down 0.2 percent month-to-month, standing 3.3 percent higher than a year earlier.

The increase in factory output was the largest since a 2.3 percent monthly jump in March.

The statistics agency said machinery and equipment industries had shown the strongest growth in the past year, up nearly 17 percent.
