BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A Swiss pharmaceutical company is paying Idaho $350,000 in a settlement of fraud charges.
The deal with Novartis, part of a broader case against the Swiss company brought by other states, resolves allegations that it improperly promoted an anti-epileptic drug and engaged in unlawful kickback schemes to get doctors to prescribe medications.
Idaho Medicaid will receive $118,661 in restitution from the settlement.
Another $231,384 will be deposited into the state's general fund for appropriation by the Legislature.
Idaho had alleged that Novartis provided illegal payments and other perks like entertainment and travel to health care professionals to get them to promote and prescribe several drugs.
