Tiffany & Co. To Open Ky. Manufacturing Plant

Upscale jewelry and gift seller Tiffany & Co. is opening a manufacturing plant in Lexington that will employ 125 people.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Upscale jewelry and gift seller Tiffany & Co. is opening a manufacturing plant in Lexington that will employ 125 people.

The New York-based company broke ground on the plant Wednesday, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Known around the world for high-end jewelry in turquoise boxes, Tiffany & Co. officials said the quality of life in Lexington was among the top reasons it chose to locate there.

John Petterson, senior vice president of operations and manufacturing, says they liked the "feel" of Lexington — "the people, the hospitality, the friendliness and the warmth of the community."

The 25,000-square-foot plant in the Bluegrass Business Park is expected to be operating by spring. Product lines will include engagement jewelry, diamond pendants and earrings and the Tiffany "Keys" collection.
