SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A San Francisco-based electric car company XP Vehicles Inc. said Thursday it has filed a legal brief with the U.S. Department of Justice regarding alleged improprieties in a government loan-guarantee program.
XP Vehicles cites a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office on the Department of Energy Loan Guarantee Program. The GAO found favoritism and unclear performance goals in a report on the program issued in July.
XP Vehicles said the program is set up to favor large companies -- including Ford and Nissan -- at the expense of smaller businesses like XP.
XP said it is seeking a re-review of all small business applicants to the program, which has authority to guarantee $77 billion in loans.
