HARRODSBURG, Ky. (AP) -- Modine Manufacturing Co., which had announced additional jobs at its plant in Harrodsburg in 2006, now says it will close the plant.
The manufacture of motor vehicle radiators and heat exchangers will be moved to other North American Modine plants, reported WKYT-TV in Lexington.
About 110 jobs will be lost in Mercer County over the next 6-9 months as the plant ceases operation.
Harrodsburg Mayor Lonnie Campbell told the station he received the news in a phone call from the plant manager Thursday afternoon it came as a shock.
The Racine, Wis.-based company cited the economic downturn as the reason for closing the plant.
The company announced in January it would cut about 175 employees and contractors at its headquarters, or about 25 percent of the work force there.
Modine announced in 2006 that it was closing a plant in Clinton, Tenn., ending about 100 jobs.
