JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Officials with Wolverine World Wide Inc. say the company will close its plant in Jonesboro, leaving 270 people out of work.
Spokeswoman Christi Cowdin says the plant's production will be handled by another facility in Big Rapids, Mich. The Jonesboro plant, which makes military boots, is to close in six to nine months.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin says the plant's closure comes as the city is celebrating an economic development achievement, Nordex's planned wind energy facility.
Perrin says he's grateful that although the city will lose 270 jobs, it will gain another 900 with the Nordex plant.
