Sara Lee, Kraft Foods Fight Over Hot Dog Ad

Nation’s two biggest hot dog-makers are battling in court over an alleged assertion that one makes the better tasting product.

CHICAGO (AP) -- The nation's two biggest hot dog-makers are battling in court over an alleged assertion that one makes the better tasting product.

Downers Grove-based Sara Lee Corp. on Wednesday sued Northfield-based Kraft Foods Inc.

Sara Lee says Kraft is running an ad that claims in large print that one type of its Oscar Mayer wieners tastes better than Sara Lee's entire line of Ball Park franks.

Sara Lee says the ad is misleading because, in small print at the bottom, it says Oscar Mayer dogs were compared to "the leading beef franks" of rivals.

Sara Lee also says Kraft's assertion that its Jumbo Beef franks are "100 percent pure beef" is false.

A Kraft spokeswoman says the company stands by its reputation for accurate advertising.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
