NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- Canon Virginia Inc. is opening its new 750,000-square-foot plant in Newport News.
Friday afternoon's ribbon-cutting ceremony comes exactly one year after the company announced the project, which officials say will create more than 1,000 jobs over the next five years.
Gov. Tim Kaine and top Canon brass will attend the ceremony, which will be followed by tours of the $640 million facility. Canon will manufacture toner cartridges for its printers in the new building next to its existing plant.
