Honda Extends Production Cuts In Britain

Extension announced Friday means the Japanese company's Swindon site in southwest England will be closed from February to May.

LONDON (AP) -- Honda Motor Co. says it will halt production at its British factory for another two months, doubling its planned shutdown period.

The extension announced Friday means the Japanese company's Swindon site in southwest England will be closed from February to May. But it says it has no current plans for redundancies among the 4,200-strong work force.

Earlier Friday, Honda said it was slashing its production in Japan by an additional 56,000 vehicles, trimming its Japan production plans for the fiscal year through March to 1.168 million vehicles.
