RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A national distributor of upholstered furniture is planning a manufacturing and distribution facility in Catawba County.
Sutter Street Manufacturing is expected to create 820 jobs over the next five years. The company must sustain the jobs for 10 years to qualify for grants worth nearly $9 million.
Gov. Mike Easley said Monday that the company is expected to open the plant in Hickory, where it already employs 50 people.
Sutter Street is a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma Inc. Its products are sold by Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, PBteen, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma Home.
