FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A new solar product company is choosing Longmont over Fort Collins for its first manufacturing plant.
 
AVA Solar said Thursday it is leasing a building in Longmont instead of constructing a large-scale plant in Fort Collins as originally planned.
 
Vice President Dave Halter says officials realized they needed to start production earlier to capitalize on market conditions.
 
The Fort Collins-based company, which was founded in January 2007, has developed a thin film photovoltaic module technology with plans to start production next year.
