Blodgett Oven Outgrows Plant

Commercial oven and cooking equipment maker needs to move out of its 60-year-old plant in Vermont and find new quarters for its 170 employees.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Blodgett Oven Co. says it has grown too big for its current plant and is looking to expand in new quarters in the area.

The commercial oven and cooking equipment maker has seen double-digit growth in sales during the past five years and needs to move out of its 60-year-old plant on the Lake Champlain shoreline and find new quarters for its 170 employees, said company president Gary Mick.

Founded by Gardner Spring Blodgett in 1848, the company was bought by Maytag in 1997 and later by Middleby Corp. of Elgin, Ill. Sales have grown from about $50 million in 2003 to more than $100 million projected for 2008.
