DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — UOP LLC, which licenses technologies for oil and chemical processing, said Tuesday that Jurong Aromatics Corp. Pte. Ltd. hired the Honeywell International Inc. unit to help develop a chemical plant in Singapore.

UOP will supply technology, basic engineering services and equipment for the Jurong Island facility, which is already being designed and is slated for completion in 2011. UOP said the plant will be one of the largest privately-owned petrochemical facilities in the city-state.

Financial terms of the project were not disclosed.

The plant will use liquids present in natural gas as a feedstock to produce about 1.45 billion tons of benzyne and benzyne derivatives per year. The chemicals are used to make textiles and electronic appliances. It will also make 2.5 million metric tons of fuel annually.
