HP Planning New Factory In China

Hewlett-Packard Co. plans to create a new factory for desktop and laptop computers in Chongqing, which will be operational in 2010.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. plans to create a new factory for desktop and laptop computers in the Chinese city of Chongqing, it said Thursday.

HP already has several facilities in China, and is the second-largest maker of PCs in the country, it said.

The new, 215,000-square foot factory will be operational in 2010, HP said.

Shares of HP fell 16 cents to $39.84 in afternoon trading.
