Wabash National Saves Trailer Plant From Closure

Company has purchased an idled flatbed trailer plant in western Kentucky from Benson International, which means about 95 people will keep their jobs.

CADIZ, Ky. (AP) -- Wabash National Corp. has purchased an idled plant in western Kentucky, which means about 95 people will keep their jobs.

Benson International had said it would close the flatbed trailer plant in Cadiz by August unless a buyer was found. President Donnie Holland blamed the plant's problems on soaring fuel and metal prices.

The Paducah Sun reports that trailer maker Wabash National purchased the idled plant for $5 million.

Holland said production will resume next month and most of the workers who had been laid off in recent weeks would be called back to work.
