FORD CITY, Pa. (AP) -- That giant flushing sound may be the rush of more than 150 jobs down the drain if a 90-year-old toilet making operation closes down in Armstrong County.
American Standard Brands says it will decide soon whether to close its Eljer toilet plant in Ford City and a distribution center in nearby Gilpin Township. The plant employs 142 and the distribution center has another 17 workers.
Piscataway, N.J.-based American Standard says excess inventory and a collapsing home construction industry are to blame for the expected closing.
The company cut 200 jobs at the plant two years ago transferring work to facilities in Mexico, China or South America.
