Government Incentives Save Pa. Trailer Plant

State, county and local officials helped new owner put together an incentive deal to buy International Trailers Inc. plant for $2.3 million.

MEYERSDALE, Pa. (AP) â€” A new owner says he plans to keep the International Trailers Inc. plant open in Somerset County, saving 30 jobs and perhaps doubling the work force within three years.

This time last year, the plant's parent company, Benton International of West Virginia was talking about downsizing or even closing the plant.

But the plant's general manager, Leonard Lottig of Meyersdale, says state, county and local officials helped him put together an incentive deal to buy the plant for 2.3 million dollars.

The plant in Elk Lick Township makes truck trailers, dump truck bodies and specialized truck products.
