Food Maker Plans To Close Massachusetts Plant

Ninety jobs will be eliminated when Ralcorp Holdings moves snack nut manufacturing to its Alabama facility next year.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Food-products maker Ralcorp Holdings Inc. said Thursday it plans to close a Billerica, Mass., manufacturing plant in 2008, eliminating about 90 jobs.

Ralcorp said production at the plant, which produces a variety of snack nuts, will be moved to the company's snack nut manufacturing facility in Dothan, Ala.

Ralcorp will offer the affected employees a combination of severance benefits and outplacement assistance. The company also said some of them may be offered the chance to relocate to Dothan.

The consolidation is expected to improve the efficiency of the company's Bremner Food Group's snack nut business, Ralcorp said.
