Medical Device Maker Promex Plans Expansion

Promex Technologies plans to more than double the size of its office and manufacturing plant to more than 35,000 sq. ft.

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) - A medical-device maker plans to expand its facility in this small town south of Indianapolis, adding 40 jobs with total annual salaries of about $1.4 million, the mayor said.

Promex Technologies plans to more than double the size of its office and manufacturing plant to more than 35,000 square feet from 14,700 square feet, Franklin Mayor Brenda Jones-Matthews confirmed Tuesday.

''It means a lot for Franklin,'' Jones-Matthews said. ''They're a quality company. They're global. They do a lot of research and development and manufacturing. They're the kind of company we want here.''

The company has been in Franklin since 1998 and ''never asked for anything,'' said the mayor of the city 20 miles southeast of Indianapolis. That was before the company asked officials this year about receiving tax-exempt financing bonds for its expansion project, which the city granted Monday.

The company is perhaps best-known as a manufacturer of biopsy needles, though it makes a variety of products under various brand names.
