ASHEBORO, N.C. (AP) - A ready-to-eat cereal manufacturer plans to break ground Tuesday for a new facility in Asheboro that is expected to create 160 jobs by 2012.
Malt-O-Meal Company plans to remodel a 175,000-square-foot building and construct 200,000 square feet of additional space in the Central Piedmont Industrial Park.
The Minneapolis-based company has three other production plants, including two in Northfield, Minn., and one in Tremonton, Utah.
''The plant will serve as Malt-O-Meal's East Coast manufacturing location, expanding our capacity and reach from New England to Miami,'' John Lettman, Malt-O-Meal's chief executive, said in a written statement Monday.
The Asheboro facility, about 70 miles west of Raleigh, will begin operations in late 2008, officials said.
