Moyer Packing Fined $61,000 For Air Pollution

Air quality violations at rendering plant discovered during June 2006 inspection.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Moyer Packing Co., a division of Virginia-based Smithfield Foods Inc., has been fined $61,000 for air quality violations at its company's Franconia Township rendering plant last year, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said Monday.

Inspectors found at the June 2006 visit that the company was not properly maintaining some air pollution control devices and was failing to monitor and record required information on some units such as water flow rates, pressure and temperature, DEP regional director Joseph Feola said.
