Plastics Company Picks Monroe, N.C. For Expansion, 100 Jobs

Darnel Inc. will invest approximately $20 million to open a plastic container plant and create 100 jobs.

Manufacturing firm Darnel Inc. will invest approximately $20 million to open a plastic container plant in Monroe, N.C. and create 100 jobs.

Darnel, which is the U.S. subsidiary of Ajover S.A. in Colombia, an international plastics manufacturer, will receive a $100,000 One North Carolina Fund grant as an incentive to build the plant in Union County.

Darnel will manufacture plastic foam containers for the food industry at the plant in Monroe.

“Darnel has chosen Union County as the location for our new manufacturing facility because of its ease of distribution access and the availability of skilled workers,” said Walt Harfmann, the firm’s general manager. “We have been very pleased with the cooperative spirit of the economic development personnel of North Carolina, Union County and the city of Monroe. We look forward to being a productive member of an outstanding community.”

The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 20,000 jobs and $3 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
