Timken To Exit European Steel Tube Operation

Desford facility deemed unprofitable, despite sales of  about $85 to $95 million.

The Timken Co. announced Thursday its intentions to exit its European seamless steel tube manufacturing operations in Desford, England. It will start consultations with representatives for the 400 associates at the facility to explore alternatives to closure.

Despite sales of about $85 to $95 million, the Desford facility has not been profitable. Seamless steal tube for machining and mechanical application, particularly for the European bearing industry, is manufactured at the facility.
