Dow Chemical CEO To Head Manufacturing Panel Under Trump

Liveris is slated to step down as Dow's chief executive next year after the completion of the company's merger with DuPont.

President-elect Donald Trump announced at a rally in Michigan last week that one of the state's most prominent business leaders would lead a Commerce Department advisory panel in his administration.

Trump told the audience in Grand Rapids that Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris would head the American Manufacturing Council. Details of the council's role and membership are expected this week.

Liveris, 62, is slated to step down as Dow's chief executive next year after the completion of the company's merger with DuPont.

He indicated earlier this year that he would stay on as executive chairman of the newly merged company and help guide its split into three separate, publicly traded companies within two years.

Liveris also said at the rally that Dow would establish a new innovation center in Michigan. The facility itself will create 100 new jobs and shift 100 other Dow positions back to the U.S. from overseas.

"We’re going to put you all to work," Liveris said at the rally, according to The Wall Street Journal. "We’ve got ideas and we’ve got plans."

The Journal, however, noted that restructuring efforts announced by Dow over the past two years would amount to thousands of job cuts.
