BRANDON, S.D. (AP) — A Canada-based company plans to manufacture wind towers in a building it purchased in the eastern South Dakota city of Brandon.

The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/11q0fDu ) that Marmen Inc. promotes itself as the largest wind tower manufacturer in North America. The company has said it plans to hire 200 people at the new plant.

The building was built in 2010 for Tower Tech Systems, but operations were never started because the Wisconsin company could not secure enough contracts for wind towers.

Dennis Olson, assistant city administrator for Brandon, says the jobs created by Marmen will be a big benefit to the city.

Marmen has not announced when it will start hiring workers. Operations are planned to start at the plant late this year.
