Maruti Suzuki Launches New Small Car In India

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the Indian arm of Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp., launched a new model Tuesday of its small car Alto 800 for the Indian market ahead of the festival season. With a fresh look, the new model is roomier, 15 percent more fuel-efficient and better geared for city conditions, the firm's managing director, Shinzo Nakanishi, told a press conference.

NEW DELHI, Oct. 16 (Kyodo) — Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the Indian arm of Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp., launched a new model Tuesday of its small car Alto 800 for the Indian market ahead of the festival season.

With a fresh look, the new model is roomier, 15 percent more fuel-efficient and better geared for city conditions, the firm's managing director, Shinzo Nakanishi, told a press conference.

"The all new Alto 800 is an expression of our gratitude to all those customers who posed deep confidence into this model," he said.

The new model will be made at a factory in Gurgaon in northern Indian state Haryana, a company statement said.

It will be available in three gasoline variants and three factory-fitted compressed natural gas variants, the company said.

A driver airbag will be available as an optional feature.
