Power to you
Productivity from
anywhere
Tablets are great for all kinds of business
uses. They’re a light, low-maintenance
alternative to PCs, enabling mobile staff to
have quick access to information while out
and about for use in all kinds of scenarios
— from vehicles to warehouses, shop
floors to bank branches.
All they need is a conventional SIM card
that ensures uninterrupted access to
enterprise resources and the open internet,
and today’s mobile device management
tools mean that should devices be lost
or stolen, any sensitive data they carry
can be protected.
But in many cases, such as patient
monitoring and airline flight books,
where restricting access to a limited set
of business applications is both desirable
and necessary, further capability may
be needed. This is where IoT Managed
Tablets come in.
Internet of Things (IoT)
connectivity
For large-scale multinational rollouts,
or specific business applications, we
understand that you have explicit
needs. We’ve designed our IoT Managed
Tablet solution to help you tackle three
main challenges:
• Security: The security features of mobile
device management solutions only go
so far. You need to ensure that your data
is secure if the tablet is stolen. You also
need to be able to deploy tablets that
only offer access to specific business
applications controlled through point-
to-point connectivity, that eliminate
the security risks of having open
internet access.
• Management: When deploying
thousands of tablets across multiple
countries, it’s important to do it
effectively. Administrators need to
be able to control devices centrally,
with complete visibility of usage
and spend, while end users need a
consistent experience.
• Deployment: Local SIMs can have
limitations and can be costly when
roaming to other countries. Procuring
SIMs for each country and deploying
them into each device is time-intensive
and potentially problematic. You need
a service that has a global roaming
footprint, but that can be managed
through a single contract, with single bill
and a single point of contact for support.
A complete solution
Vodafone IoT Managed Tablet combines
managed IoT cellular connectivity with a
choice of tablet devices and full lifecycle
management, including staging, kitting
and logistics.
It is a complete solution that delivers
the manageability, control and security
needed to suit the most demanding use
cases, providing a consistent end-user
experience, a global roaming footprint
and controlled user access to specific
business applications.
Controlled access for a secure
tablet experience
Managed IoT tablets provide companies with a convenient way to limit
access to pre-defined applications while providing the security and
manageability required.

A complete solution
IoT Managed Tablet includes a choice
of devices and accessories, a range of
professional services, central support and
IoT connectivity, managed through our
Global M2M Platform.
Our Global SIM is installed in each of
the tablets and your specific business
applications are preloaded onto them,
ensuring a consistent user experience.
We handle the global shipment of tablets,
supported by a managed service that
operates with a single contract, single bill,
and single point of contact for support.
Full logistical support
With our service you can quickly and easily
distribute thousands of tablets to locations
around the world. With IoT Managed Tablet
you have a single point of accountability, so
the procurement and distribution of tablets
is managed centrally. We will arrange the
building, staging, kitting and shipping of
your tablets, reducing the workload for
you and ensuring a faster time to market.
Devices will be delivered ready to use on
the network, straight out of the box.
Global use with
unmatched connectivity
The Global SIM ensures connectivity for
your users, wherever their location is.
Our SIMs are automatically ready to use
anywhere within our global footprint —
they’re not localised to one country’s
network. We have international roaming
agreements in place, as well as national
roaming deals with other networks
if Vodafone’s network isn’t available.
This ensures the best network access
and predictable costs across all of your
operating markets.
Operate globally from a single location
Our IoT Managed Tablet service simplifies the global rollout of tablets
for your organisation so that you don’t have to worry about security,
management, control or connection.
Vodafone IoT Managed Tablet
Restricted access
Our IoT Managed Tablet service gives you
complete control over how your tablets
are used. Data communication controlled
through point-to-point connectivity
means that users will only have access
to the specific business applications you
want them to use — open internet access
is restricted. This helps to promote a
consistent and secure user experience.
Security
The Global M2M Platform, along with
Vodafone Secure Device Manager, gives
you visibility and control of your IoT tablets
anywhere within our global footprint. It
can track the location of your devices,
and alert you to unusual activity so that
you can deactivate the SIM if necessary.
Vodafone Secure Device Manager also
allows you to remotely lock or wipe tablets
if they’re lost or stolen, reducing the
risk of your confidential data falling into
the wrong hands.
Centralised control
and support
Like any IoT asset, your tablets’
connectivity will be fully manageable
through the Global M2M Platform. The
portal’s dashboard enables you to group
SIMs according to characteristics, so you
can manage them in bulk and reduce your
administrative workload. You will also have
full control over the SIM lifecycle, so if the
tablet is changing hands from one user
to another, you can suspend the SIM card
temporarily and reactivate when necessary
— a feature simply not available with
conventional SIMs.
With IoT Managed Tablet you also benefit
from a single contract and centralised
billing. The Platform provides instant
online reporting into usage for the current
and previous billing period, giving you
greater financial visibility and control. You
will also benefit from the full support of our
IoT service desk throughout the lifecycle of
your contract, providing you with a single
point of contact.

rollouts of tablets — so

carrying out specific
business tasks.

Healthcare
Managed tablets with IoT connectivity have several different
healthcare applications. They can be used for remote
patient monitoring to reduce time spent in hospitals and for
implementing healthcare diaries ensuring greater accuracy around
treatment. Tablets can be given to patients on clinical trials to
log reactions and symptoms, and they can also be used by social
workers when making house calls — to submit reports or to check
notes from previous visits.
Transport and logistics
Managed tablets can be integrated with IoT fleet management
applications so that drivers can access job allocation details and
routing information, improving productivity. Drivers can also use
tablets to log delivery and collection information, ensuring that
customers are kept up-to-date.
Utilities
The IoT Managed Tablet service is perfectly suited to employees
who are out in the field, and this covers several different roles in
the utilities industry. Staff can collect and submit meter readings
on site, while mobile salespeople can use tablets to record orders,
sending the information directly to a central database. Field
engineers conducting maintenance and repairs can access their
schedule for the day, details of customers, history logs and issues
with equipment, increasing productivity and efficiency.
Financial services
Claims assessors in the insurance industry can use IoT managed
tablets when visiting customers to confirm that claims are
legitimate. Tablets can also be used by risk assessors to access
analytics applications while onsite with customers.
Airlines
IoT-connected tablets can be used to replace flight books and in-
flight manuals for cabin crew. Tablets can also be used as a point
of sale (POS) for in-flight sales.
How could IoT Managed Tablets work
for you?
Managed tablets with IoT connectivity can be used across a range of sectors,
dedicated to a specific application to ensure greater security and integrity.
Ryanair on course for a paperless cockpit
Ryanair is rolling out 3,750 managed tablets to its pilots, removing the need to carry printouts of
weather reports, route instructions and duty rosters, when they get onboard. The new tablets provide
an electronic flight bag that connects to the Ryanair’s systems and syncronise data via Vodafone’s
network, giving the pilots up-to-the-minute information before they set off to one of the airlines 189
destinations in Europe and North Africa. This will allow paper systems to be retired by 2016.Case study
