Recall Recap: Exploding Herb Bottles, Plastic in Beef; Onion Outbreak Expands

Here's the food recall and health alerts issued from the FDA, USDA and CDC over this past week.

Bottled Herbs Could Explode

Mountain Meadow Herbs (Somers, MT) has recalled 54 bottles from a lot of Mountain Meadow Herbs brand Candida Flush, as some bottles from the lot have become pressurized over time in storage and could explode when opened. It was distributed to five states and Ontario, and sold directly to consumers in 10 states.


Beef Patties Recalled for Plastic

Shamrock Foods Company, dba Gold Canyon Meat Company, (Phoenix, AZ) has recalled 6,876 pounds of raw ground beef patties that may be contaminated with pieces of hard, white plastic. They were shipped to restaurant locations in Arizona and California, where it staff reported finding the plastic patties during preparation.


Onions-Salmonella Outbreak Tied to 892 Illnesses

On Nov. 18, the FDA and CDC gave an update on an ongoing outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to whole, fresh onions traced to suppliers ProSource (Hailey, ID) and Keeler Family Farms (Deming, NM). As of Nov. 12, the outbreak is now responsible for 892 illnesses in 38 states and Puerto Rico.


Additional Onion Recalls

Potandon Produce LLC (Idaho Falls, ID) has expanded its Oct. 26 recall of onions supplied from Keeler Family Farms and sold as Green Giant Fresh. They were shipped between July 15-Aug. 22 to an UNFI distribution center in Champaign, IL. Also, Alsum Farms & Produce (Friesland, WI) has recalled onions supplied from Chihuahua, Mexico and delivered to retailers in WI, IL, MI and PA between July 13-Aug. 18.


Salmon Products Recalled for Listeria

Oregon Lox Company (Eugene, OR) has recalled various brands of Wild Cold Smoked Keta Salmon Lox, specific lot #22821, that may be contaminated with Listeria. Shipped frozen on common carriers, the product was distributed in Alaska, California, Oregon and Washington.


Curry Powder Recalled for Undeclared Peanuts

Spice N’ More Corp. (Brooklyn, NY) has recalled its 13 ounce containers of Salma Natural Curry Powder with Lot #H092021 and best by date 12/20/23 because they may contain undeclared peanuts. The product was distributed nationwide to supermarket and distributors.


Supplements Recall Expands to 80 Products

Nutracap Holdings (Norcross, GA) has recalled 82 dietary supplements due to undeclared milk on the labels. The recalled products were shipped between January 2020-November 2021 to distributors and retailers in 17 states. The firm’s initial Nov. 9 recall covered only six products.
