Performance: One BIGDOG does the job of up 20 smaller circulation fans

A Savanah, GA warehouse needed a solution to cool and circulate air in their busy facility. The issue, one million five hundred thousand square feet, yes, 1,500,000 square feet of warehouse space with 30 foot ceilings and all the people and equipment of a national chain store distribution center, and temperatures were exceeding 90°F three months out of the year.

The high temperatures coupled with the heat given off by the equipment made keeping the area cool and well ventilated a major concern. Employee productivity and accuracy as well as employee safety and hydration had become a challenge.

The warehouse, although air-conditioned, has over 50 dock doors facing east and 25 dock doors facing south. Most of the activity was within an open area 100 feet from the 50 dock doors facing east and a conveyor system took up a large portion of the space over the staging area near the 25 south facing dock doors.

The goal was to provide the warehouse with an effective airflow and reduce the ambient air. The solution was bundling 72” BIGDOG® industrial circulation fans.

One BIGDOG with six directional deflectors produces 60,000 cfm of air movement at 300 rpm (10,000 cfm at 50 rpm) and velocity of 1500 ft/min directly beneath the fan, and operates at 72 dBA noise level at 25 feet from the fan.

Bundling two units together allowed the total of 12 deflectors to cover at least 10 dock doors, so 10 units were suggested for the 50 east doors. The same solution was applied to the south facing doors, but 6 units were more than adequate to resolve the problem, more so with the directional deflectors adjusted to need.

The bottom line, one BIGDOG does the job of up 20 smaller circulation fans, consumes less energy, as little as 300 watts of power or 40 cfm per watt, and costs less to install, fitting conveniently in corridors and between sprinklers. It’s all about performance.
