It is the first perfected switch reluctance motor, with many advantages over an AC or DC motor and can replace AC or DC motors in many pumping applications. By a perfected switch reluctance motor, we mean one that has overcome all of this motor’s traditional issues such as cumbersome control, relatively high torque ripple, mechanical vibrations and acoustic noise.
The DVR Smart Motor needs no rare earth or permanent magnets, brushes or commutators, leading to longer motor life; it has an internal micro-processor with sensors that constantly monitor the motor and environmental conditions to adjust speed and power, and tell the operator when it needs attention or maintenance. This “controller intelligence” also makes it energy efficient, providing up to a 50 percent power savings over conventional AC and DC motors.
