Starbucks announced a new yogurt partnership with Danone SA as part of efforts to double food sales at the iconic coffeehouse chain.
Starbucks will begin smoothies featuring an exclusive Dannon Green-style yogurt at 4,300 of its roughly 12,000 U.S. coffee shops, including locations in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and inside several grocery and retail chains.
The smoothies -- which were initially tested in the San Jose and St. Louis markets last year -- will also include Starbucks' Evolution Fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Flavors include Sweet Greens, Strawberry and Mango Carrot; customers will also have the option of adding fresh kale to their smoothies.
“I couldn’t be more excited about what these smoothies offer the Starbucks customer,” said Evolution Fresh President Jeff Hansberry.
In addition, Starbucks will begin selling Greek-style yogurt parfaits at about half its U.S. shops starting in May, while supermarkets will begin carrying the proprietary Dannon yogurt this summer.
The Seattle-based coffee company in December announced a goal of doubling annual revenue from food at U.S. locations to more than $4 billion within the next five years.
