J&J Announces 20th Recall Since September 2009

NEW YORK (AP) — Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon unit is recalling a group of medical drainage products because of concerns about the sterility of the products. Ethicon, which makes sutures and other surgical products, said it received customer complaints that the sterile barrier in the product packaging was compromised.

NEW YORK (AP) — Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon unit is recalling a group of medical drainage products because of concerns about the sterility of the products.

Ethicon, which makes sutures and other surgical products, said it received customer complaints that the sterile barrier in the product packaging was compromised. It is recalling product lots of Blake silicone drains and silicone drain kits, Blake cardio connectors, J-Vac reservoirs and J-Vac drain adapters that were distributed between May 10, 2010 and Feb. 28. Ethicon said its customers should stop using the products and return them to Stericycle Inc., a company that manages and disposes of medical waste.

Another Johnson & Johnson unit, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, has announced 20 recalls since September 2009. The recalls included popular over-the-counter products like Tylenol and Motrin. The FDA said McNeil broke the law it its production of those medicines, and the company will face tighter regulatory scrutiny for at least five years.
