BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A food distribution company plans a $16 million capital investment to build a new facility in Walker.
Gov. Bobby Jindal and Larry Daigle, general manager of Louisiana operations for The Martin-Brower Company, say the project will help retain 160 existing jobs and create 30 new jobs.
Martin Brower has operated a food distribution complex in Port Allen since 1979 but growth and space and rail access limitations required the company to move. After exploring operations in Louisiana and Mississippi, officials say the company decided on a 22-acre site within the Livingston Industrial Park along U.S. 190.
Construction is expected to take nine to 12 months.
From its distribution complex in the Capital Region, Martin Brower supplies food items and food service products to restaurants in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
