Cooperative Plans Turkey Processing Facility in Rockingham

Gov. Terry McAuliffe says the Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative plans to build a turkey processing facility in Rockingham County that will increase production by more than 45 percent.

HINTON, Va. (AP) — Gov. Terry McAuliffe says the Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative plans to build a turkey processing facility in Rockingham County that will increase production by more than 45 percent.

McAuliffe said Tuesday that the cooperative will invest almost $62 million in the project in Hinton. The 80,000-square-foot facility will create six jobs.

The governor says in a news release that the cooperative plans additional investment in a feed mill in Broadway and a grain elevator in Linville to support the expansion.

McAuliffe approved a $500,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program to assist the county with the project.

The Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund will provide a $250,000 grant to the cooperative.
