The Defeat Hunger campaign will be back at PROCESS EXPO on September 15th-17th at McCormick Place in Chicago. This year, the show is looking to build on the success of the campaign in 2013, which raised more than 240,000 meals for the Greater Chicago Food Depository to feed Chicago’s hungry.
Food Manufacturing corresponded with David Seckman, CEO of the Food Processing Suppliers Association, to learn more about Defeat Hunger.
Q: Given the success of Defeat Hunger in 2013, how was the launch of this year’s campaign?
A: We launched this year’s campaign this Spring with an initial donation of $75,000 by the Food Processors Suppliers Association (FPSA) Foundation. Since then, we’ve received donations from a wide variety of partners such as FPSA members, local food processors, show partners and PROCESS EXPO exhibitors.
Q: How many meals do you plan to donate this year through Defeat Hunger?
A: Our goal to surpass 300,000 meals. Given the donations already given by our partners throughout the industry, that goal is already within reach.
Q: Is there a way to donate money prior to the show?
A: Anyone who is interested in participating in Defeat Hunger can visit out website www.fpsa.org and click on the Defeat Hunger button, or call Dolores Alonso at (703) 663-1226.
Q: Can attendees at the show participate in Defeat Hunger?
A: Yes, the campaign will run until the last day of the show, September 18th. PROCESS EXPO will be running an-site food drive at McCormick Place during the show and attendees should come prepared to donate food or money.
