NATRONA, Pa. (AP) — Four environmental groups intend to sue Allegheny Technologies Inc. over alleged pollution from a Pennsylvania specialty steel mill.

The Clean Air Council, Group Against Smog and Pollution, PennEnvironment, and Environmental Integrity Project filed 60-day notice Thursday of their intent to sue on behalf of citizens allegedly affected by the pollution.

The groups say the plant in Harrison Township, about 25 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, is releasing more pollution from two electric arc furnaces than its 15-year-old permit allows.

The Allegheny County Health Department says the plant isn't violating federal clean air standards, but the groups say a new proposed permit could enable the mill to double or triple its output of harmful pollutants.

ATI isn't commenting on the litigation, but says it's working with the health department on the new permit.
