KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Power & Light Co. has purchased another 500 megawatts of power from two new wind facilities in northwest Missouri.
The utility announced Thursday that it will build a 200-megawatt farm in DeKalb County east of St. Joseph. Another 300-megawatt farm is being developed in Atchison County near Tarkio.
The Kansas City Star reports (https://bit.ly/1SEU3kj ) KCP&L didn't disclose the financial details. The DeKalb County wind farm is expected to be operating by the end of the year, with the Atchison County project running by September 2017.
KCP&L says these are the first wind facilities it has constructed in its Missouri service territory. The utility has 20-year agreements with the wind farm developers.
With the new projects, KCP&L said its total wind energy system will be nearly 1,400 megawatts.
